Three Things Thursday

I was trying to think of a catchy title for a sundries post for today and thought I was oh-so-clever coming up with “Three Things Thursday”. Then I decided to Google it and discovered others have come up with that name already. Sigh. Is there nothing new and original any more? And now I’ve just realised that it’s still Wednesday. Well I’m going with it anyway. It’ll be Thursday soon enough.

Thursday Thing One:

Last week I filmed some pickups for an independent feature film that I have a small part in called Marriage. It’s a small, but significant, part and I’ve loved being involved with this film. The filming began towards the end of 2012, and they hope to have the film completed and ready to rock and roll by the end of 2014. They need time and funding to get it finished. This is the trailer for it. There’s a very brief glimpse of me around 1min 44secs on the right hand side of the screen with a cut lip:

Did you catch me? And if you’re feeling really adventurous, there’s a 9 minute documentary about the making of it. Again, I make a brief, but slightly longer, appearance around 8mins 21secs:

Thursday Thing Two:

As some of you know, I’m one of the contributing bloggers over at the Limebird Writers’ site. For various reasons, we’ve decided that the Limebirds will be no more. It felt quite sad, but we’ll all be keeping in touch. The site will stay up anyway so that our archive posts can still be accessed. Our goodbye post is here

Thursday Thing Three:

For the benefit of some of my newer followers, if you’re interested in cooking, you may like to know that I also have a cookery blog, I don’t post there very often, but I posted something last week, and thought it was time I gave it another shout out over here. Here it is – Sugarness

And one final thing…oh wait… my three things are up! I knew I should have made this Four Fings Friday instead.

Well, enough showcasing of my stuff. Any Thursday things you’d like to share with the class on this fine Wednesday? Or while we’re showcasing, feel free to showcase, or show-off, any of your own things in the comments, go on, don’t be shy…

  1. Well, speaking of marriage, I do have this great book…. It works for non-married relationships as well. And since you asked: http://www.amazon.com/101-Tips-Happier-Marriage-Couples/dp/1594714460/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377622055&sr=8-1&keywords=101+tips+for+a+happier+marriage

  4. Well look at you! I saw you in there. What were you spitting out? a tooth?? It actually looks like an interesting project. :-)

    • It was just blood I was spitting out, although it does look like I’m catching a tooth or something in that shot doesn’t it! I don’t get to do much acting because I don’t have the time available to put myself up for auditions etc, but when I do get to do some I LOVE it!

  5. I saw you, I saw you! Yay! I follow a celebrity, and she follows me. :)

That’s really very cool. I love that you pursue the things that make you passionate. I hope when the film is out, I’ll have the opportunity to see it.

    • Back from your blogging break already ;) Hey, you’re more of a celebrity than me with your properly published book ‘n all!

I don’t ge to pursue these things as much as I would like to, but it’s good to keep my hand in as it were.

  6. Well you got it right at some point, it’s Thursday here already, so I didn’t even think the title was weird (even knowing where it came from)

    • It totally didn’t dawn on me right until I had nearly finished the post that it was Wednesday! I think because we had a national holiday on Monday it just threw me off this week (nothing to do with me being generally scatty of course). Glad I was right in some parts of the world anyway :)

  8. I must say, you looked gorgeous on the big screen… well, actually little screen so far. But why the cut lip? It was fun to watch ‘the making of…’ That tiny glimpse in the first was only a tease.

I’d like to share a piece I wrote that won favorite story at the Speakeasy… bragging rights only. My first ‘win’, although I did tie for third at Trifecta last year…http://tedstrutz.com/2014/05/20/the-speakeasy-162-of-course-not-silly/

Going to check out Sugarness now. Oh, btw… I like you latest avatar!

    • Thank you, ah well I can’t reveal why the cut lip, you’ll have to wait for the film to come out ;)

Great creepy mannequin story! Mannequins are kind of creepy anyway aren’t they, like clowns, so it worked really well. Thank you for sharing the story here and congrats on being favorite story!

  9. My 3 Things Thursday(Wednesday):
#1 My daughter gave birth to my second grandchild 10 days early in San Francisco – Welcome to the World Arlo!
    #2 Its a heatwave here – 10am and 41C- I’m melting.
#3 Old friends from London visiting – plan to have a foot massage today.

    Like

    • 1 – Yay! Congratulations on the second grandchild! Arlo is a really great name.
2 – I remember those sorts of temperatures when I lived in Las Vegas, but at least it was a very dry heat there which is much more bearable, I’m imagining lots of humidity where you are.
3 – Hurrah to old friends! Is that some kind of Chinese custom to have a foot massage before old friends visit? ;)

  10. Looks intense. Hope you make it out alive. I just shared an interesting bit of video on wolves. Other than that, I’m sitting around watching the corn grow. I wish………

    Like

    • Yep, I make it out alive! I saw you had posted that video and meant to come over and comment, I will later. I’ve seen that wolf video before, I think I shared it on Facebook a few months ago, it’s certainly amazing. I thought you really were just sitting around watching the corn grow when I read that, I was going to comment on how perfect that sounds! Then I saw “I wish…..”

  11. Wow to think I played golf with a film star, and then to see her on the screen even if bleeding all over the place… when this movie is on the market I’m going to buy the DVD just so I can show every one that does not believe me that I actually played a round with you (now that sounds wrong, but you know what I mean)….

  12. Nothing under the sun is new. That doesn’t mean you’re not an original. You are.

I watched the clip. What are those first scenes of? What are they doing? I don’t recognize that. Is he hurting her? I thought your character was robust but could possibly use a motivation.

    Like

    • The film is one night in the life of a married couple, but actually it’s about Europe and the economy, the big banks etc, so everyone and everything in it is actually a symbolic representation of something else. You could tell I was lacking motivation from that one little bit – you’re a genius!

  13. What an intense film. I found you in both clips and will definitely be watching for it when it comes to theaters. How exciting is that?! Congrats to you. :)

  14. 26 days, they said? That’s impressive. Nice camera work in that trailer, too. Feels very Lynchian in some respects – I’ll have to give it a look! Are they doing a Kickstarter or similar for it?

    Like

    • Yes, it’s a husband and wife team, he does most of the camera work and lots of the editing and special effects, he’s really good, brings in extra help when he can because it’s too much for them to do when they have day jobs and kids too! They started off doing a Kickstarter last month, but for some reasons that I won’t go into here, they decided to pull it from that and are going another route. They’re really very close to finishing it now, I’m excited to see the finished thing!

  15. Woo hoo. Look at YOU, Vanessa. This should be FOUR things Thursday but I hardly noticed after catching you on film. I like what they’ve done with the story. Time for something new. Hope I’ll get to see the movie sometime when it’s out. EX-ci-TING.

I think it’s fantastic to see real people and real life situations being broadcast in a public way, so we can learn and understand how to respect your partner by keeping your values and morals in tack. I think communication must be at the forefront of any positive marriage and must work hard to achieve this on a daily basis

  17. Awesome, Vanessa. I’m glad that you’re still involved with your acting. It’s great when we have time to devote to the things we love, even if it is less time than we’d like.

  18. So cool that you are acting in a movie! Looks like an interesting premise, too. Marriage and debt. Hmm. The most intriguing thing I’ve ever heard on this topic is the problem of sexually transmitted debt! But that’s another topic :)

  19. I watched the trailer twice, and sad to say I didn’t catch you … so in the second video I paused the frame at designated spot. … Hooray … I know a movie star!

Moving to a new home has kept me busy longer than I anticipated … but I will survive.

  21. You looked dreamy in the first one and like you were having fun in the second one. How exciting for you! Not much going on for me. Rewrites on my book and sewing up a storm for an Artists Market in July to sell hand-made totes, purses, and scarves…

    Like

    • My part is actually a bit disturbing, but I don’t want to say too much! ;) Ooh, I don’t think I knew you did sewing did I? I think you should do a crafty blog post at some point and show us what you’ve made!

  22. Ah, there you are! I see you spitting blood. But I do not see your uvula, so I’m gonna pass on this one. ;)

I already miss the Limebirds. And I especially miss your contest column, which I read religiously. Might ya wanta revive it here, maybe? Just sayin’.

  23. I saw you, too! How cool is it to have a blog buddy who’s in a film! :)

Er, as for adding something, I’m drawing a blank. I don’t want to talk much about the new writing project because I don’t want to jinx it!

    • :)

But what if it’s the other way round, and actually keeping quiet about things jinx’s it? ;) I think we should look at people who have achieved success in areas that we are wanting to be in, and see how open they are about what they’re doing ahead of time, and take our lead from them, I’ll report back…
