Excuse me while I answer some questions and accept some awards

It’s that time again! A little round-up of awards received and some tricky questions to be answered. First, the lovely MsKatykins tagged me, and posed some fun questions, here are my answers:

1) What name do you wish your parents had given you? Hmmm, I think I’m fairly happy with Vanessa. When I was little I wished my first name was Jane, which is my middle name, I think that was because Vanessa was more unusual and you don’t want to be unusual when you’re little. When I was a bit older than that, I wished my name was Candy for a while (!).

2) What’s your favourite type of hat? Well, for myself, I think a grandad flat cap. Here I am sporting one:

3) Did you ever have an imaginary friend? Tell me about them! I did have an imaginary friend, he was called Mr. Bing. I don’t want to talk about it.

4) Do you have a favourite gem stone? I’ll pick sapphires, for the very unoriginal reason that they are my birthstone. On second thoughts, I’ll pick diamonds because I’ve heard they make very good friends.

5) What foreign language, if any, would you like to learn? I speak French pretty fluently and lived in France for a couple of years when I was a child. But I don’t really enjoy the process of learning languages - I’m too impatient. But if I could be miraculously injected with instant knowledge of another language, I’d probably choose Spanish or Klingon.

6) What’s the most reckless thing you’ve ever done? I once ticked the box which said that I had read and agreed to the terms and conditions, when I hadn’t so much as glanced at them.

7) If you have a bucket list, what’s the most significant thing on it? Ooh, I don’t have one, I mean of course there are lots of things I want to do and achieve, but I haven’t written them into a list or anything, they’re all up here (I’m pointing at my head).

8) If you could have starred as any character in any film, what would it be and why? I think I’m going to go for Baby from Dirty Dancing because I’ve always loved dancing, and I loved that film. When he lifts her in the air, it’s the ultimate feel good movie moment.

9) How many fingers am I holding up? Three.

10) What’s the worst haircut you’ve ever had and who was responsible for it? This is another picture round. When I was five, my mother decided it would be a good idea to cut my fringe (bangs) the night before I was having a school photo taken (sorry Mum if you’re reading this!). Here was the result:

11) What do you plan to do this weekend? I’m having a night out with the gals which I’m really looking forward to – one of my very bestest bestest friends in the whole wide world is having her hen night, so we’re hitting central London. Woohoo!

And now for the awards. Thank you to the all the lovely people who have showered me with awards…

Thank you so much! I am very grateful to those kind folk who have passed these to me. As I explained last time I did an award thanking post, I don’t follow all the rules associated with all the awards, and I don’t pass them on to others anymore. That’s just the way I roll. But really I’d like to just pass them on to anyone who wants one because I can’t pick, so if you think you are worthy of any of these awards, then just take them as a gift from me – you can find the rules by clicking on the links to the people who gave them to me. You’re welcome.

Awards, and Tag, and Questions! Oh My!

Since my last award acceptance post back in March – The Versatile Blogger Award, I have been given several more blogging awards, and have also been tagged and questioned (in a blogging way, not a police arresting me way). I have been very remiss in acknowledging all these, so thank you very much to everyone, and here we go…

I was given the Versatile Blogger Award by They call me Betty, Craig Hallam, and Jennifer M Eaton

Versatile Blogger Award

I was given the Sunshine Award by Robin Coyle

Sunshine Award

I was given the Blog on Fire Award by Kasia James

Blog on fire Award

I was given the lovely Daisy Award by the lovely Subtlekate

Daisy Award

I was given the Ask Me Anything Award by mskatykins

Ask Me Anything Award

The point of this Ask Me Anything Award is that you can ask me anything (within reason!) in the comments below and I will answer honestly in another post – this may or may not work depending on whether anyone does actually ask me anything! So if you have any burning questions to ask me then ask away below, and if you don’t then we’ll just pretend this never happened.

And Finally, also from mskatykins is the question tag. Mskatykins tagged me to answer eleven questions of her choosing. So here they are, with my answers:

1. What is your favourite ice-cream flavour and why?

I couldn’t possibly pick just one, or say why. I like ice-cream that has lots of chunky bits of things in it, I don’t really like chocolate flavour ice-cream, but I like it to have big bits of chocolate things in it, maybe some marshmallow, some toffee, pralinated nuts are good, ooh and more chocolate things.

2. Do blondes really have more fun?

Well I’m not a natural blonde myself *gasp*, but I would say that there is something about being blonde that makes me feel good about myself. I have had a number of different colours over the years and even though a lot of people say they prefer me with my natural dark hair, I just feel more vibrant with blonde. So if vibrant = fun then yes.

3. What is the weirdest dream that you remembering having? (I’m talking sleepy dream here.)

Most dreams are pretty weird aren’t they, but one particularly strange one I remember is that I was staying in a mansion house for a weekend, and a murder took place, but instead of it being awful, it was as if it was part of a staged murder-mystery event. Everything I was doing was being described by a narrator whose voice I could hear loudly and clearly. Within the dream I just couldn’t work out if things were real or not.

4. Did you grow to become/do what you always dreamed of as a child? If not, why not?

I dreamed of being a dancer. At 16 I was offered a place at a good dancing college in London and was all set to go, but over the summer prior to starting I moved in with my boyfriend instead and had to start working and so gave up the dream.

5. What is the most annoying fad that you’ve ever succumbed to?

The only annoying one I can think of was those little anklet trainer socks that had mini pompoms on the back, they were annoying because the pom poms would sometimes not get on well with the back of my shoes.

6. If you could steal someone’s identity for a day, who would you be and what you would you do as them?

I’m a bit unclear on this question, whether it means actually be them for a day, and therefore know what is going on inside their head, or just own their identity, but still be inside my own head. Maybe I’m over-analysing it, but it makes a difference and I therefore don’t feel able to answer it.

7. Where would you most and least like to visit in the world?

Most like – Any of these will do: Top 10 Most Amazing Tropical Islands

Least like – I don’t want to hurt any place’s feelings, so I’ll pass on answering that one.

8. What, in your opinion, is one of the best/most useful inventions ever and why?

Well ignoring things like the wheel, I’m going to go with a much more modern invention that has made a huge difference to me. It’s the satnav. I LOVE my satnav. I used to get lost all the time, and be trying to look at maps or read printed out route planners whilst driving, but then my Dad bought me a satnav and it transformed my travel. I’ve had it for a couple of years, and every time I use it, I appreciate it and am grateful for it.

9. If you could be any other species, what would you hope to be?

A dog (belonging to a good owner), they always seem to enjoy life so much.

10. If you could see one music act dead or alive, back stage, first class treatment, who would it be and where and why?

I think I’m going to go for Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, back in their heyday in Las Vegas. My reason is that I lived in Vegas for a few years, and would love to go back in time to that era, hang out with those guys, and see if the rumours were true! You never know, maybe even be the subject of a few rumours myself ;)

11. Do you have any superstitions?

Well, to answer this one I shall just link to the post I did about superstitions a while ago: I’m not superstitious. But just in case…

Now I’m supposed to come up with 11 questions of my own and tag other people to answer them, I’m also supposed to nominate other people to receive the other awards I received, and some of them have other rules attached too. Sorry to be a party-pooper but I’m not going to do any of that. One reason is that last time I found it so hard to pick people, it took me hours and then I felt bad about some I left out. The other reason is that some people don’t like to take part in these things, and I’m not sure who they are, so I don’t want to thrust myself upon anyone who doesn’t want to be thrusted upon.

Sorry if I’ve missed out any I was nominated for! Just a reminder to finish off with – if you want to ask me anything, ask it below and I will answer questions in another post, if it all works out…

The Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatie Blogger Award picture

I would like to thank my Manager, my parents and children, my pet hamster…

How very kind, I have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger award by Pete Denton Thank you Pete!

For my non-blogging followers, this is one of several awards that bloggers award to each other as a way of showing appreciation for the blogs that they enjoy.

The rules for accepting this award are as follows:

1. Thank the award-givers and link back to them in your post. Check (see above)

2. Share 7 things about yourself. Check (see below)

3. Pass this award along to 15 other bloggers. Check (see below)

4. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award. Will let them know as soon as I’ve posted this

Share 7 things about myself

Well I recently shared 10 things about myself when I did my 10 on Tuesday post, so I guess I had better come up with seven new things now…

1) I once set all the clocks in the house forward by an hour in order to trick my children into going to bed an hour early one night. I was feeling a bit frazzled and needed a bit of time to myself. It turned out to be a pointless exercise because I felt so bad about tricking them that I didn’t enjoy that extra hour to myself at all!

2) My children’s great grandfather (on their father’s side) was a passenger on the Titanic. He survived, which he was very lucky to do as a 3rd class male passenger.

3) My earliest memory is from my 1st birthday. Nobody believes me that I have such an early memory, but it’s true. I spent my 1st birthday in Ibiza and I have a clear memory of my Dad holding me on top of an inflatable dolphin in the pool whilst I watched the dolphin’s nose bobbing up and down in the water.

4) A few weeks ago I did my first stand-up comedy gig at a pub in London. Just a little 5 minute slot amongst other acts. It was completely terrifying, but it went much better than I expected, and I’ve been booked to do another one in April.

5) On a dark and stormy evening in my early 20s I accepted a lift from a stranger. The car pulled up, the door opened, and a voice said “Get in”, so I got in. I assumed it must be someone I knew, I really did. As I fastened my seat belt, I saw it was a stranger, and we sped off. It turned out to be fine, but while we were driving all I could think about was that if anything happened to me everyone would be saying “What was she thinking, getting into a strange man’s car like that? Stupid girl!”.

6) When I was 10, I decided to run away from home one day. Not because I was unhappy there but just for the adventure. I walked for about 20 minutes. Then it started to get dark and I got scared so I went back home. It was an adventure of sorts.

7) I love pick’n'mix sweets, olives, seafood, asparagus, cherries, prosciutto, champagne (to name a few consumables).

Pass award on to 15 other bloggers

Let me say first that if any of the people I nominate don’t want to ‘join in’ by posting about it and nominating other bloggers then that’s absolutely fine. If it feels like a burden or chore then that rather defeats the point. But I hope they appreciate the sentiment at least. I would also like to say that it was really hard to make the choice because I always want to please everyone, and as I follow 43 blogs I’ve had to leave lots out. Sorry. Just remember though, if I’m following you then it means that I do like your blog. Just not as much as the ones I nominated. (Kidding!). So I’ve tried to select a range of different types of blogs. It took me an unnecessarily long amount of time.

In no particular order…

He has some reasonably interesting things to say I suppose, I only wish I was male so that I could understand them, teehee, it’s http://talkingeducationandsport.blogspot.com/

Another non-WordPress (if I’m allowed one then I’m allowed two right?). She’s a life coach, mentor and writer. We worked together for a while so I can vouch for her loveliness, it’s http://www.jenmsmith.com/
