Sweets For My Sweet…

I have an announcement. Drum roll please…

Are you ready? Here goes…I have started up a second blog! Da Daaaa!!! I know what you’re thinking; this is madness, to give myself something else to fit in to my busy schedule. That’s what you’re thinking, right? You’re probably right, but let me explain…

Back in September I wrote a post entitled ‘What DO you do about fudge that hasn’t set?’ That post has ended being my most visited post of all time. The post features quite high up on the list if you type things like ‘why hasn’t my fudge set’ into Google (or it does on the UK Google when I’ve tried it anyway). In December alone that fudge post received 676 views, which I’m sure you’ll agree is pretty high for a three month old post. Obviously December is a big fudge-making month, what with Christmas ‘n all, but even before December, and now post-Christmas, not a day goes by without several visits being made to that page.

I found myself thinking that I should do more for all these people who are coming here wanting fudge advice. WordPress advise doing follow-up posts if you have very popular posts, and I considered that, but in the end I decided to set up a completely separate blog, not just about fudge, but about all kinds of sweet things. I’ve called in Sugarness – see how clever that is? ‘Sugar’ because it’s about sweet stuff, and ‘Ness’ because that’s short for Vanessa! (Yes, I am rather pleased with myself about the name. I’m going to say it again…Sugarness). You can go and check it out here – http://sugarness.com/ Or by clicking on the screen grab image of it here:

I set it up on 1 January, so there’s not a whole lot on there yet, and I’m still tinkering with the layout and the widgets and the oojamaflips, but seeing as a few people have already found it and ‘liked’ the two posts I’ve put up, I thought I’d better officially unveil it. It has two followers already, yay! Both my children enjoy cooking and baking, so it’s something I can get them involved with. I’m also hoping that as the site grows, people will submit recipes etc to me, so that I don’t have to do ALL the work (that’s a hint by the way; info on how to submit recipes is on the ‘Get Involved’ page on the site). Anyway, we shall see how it goes, it’s all quite fun so far.

And speaking of drum rolls, I completely forgot to announce the winner of the Amazon gift card I gave away on my author chat post. I didn’t forget to do the draw; I put all the names in my son’s cycle helmet and got him to draw one out, and he drew out littlemisswordy I did let her know, and bought her the gift card, so I did all that malarkey, but I just forgot to announce it on here for anyone who might have been waiting anxiously to hear! So anyway, congratulations littlemisswordy!

Yep, I think that’s all my announcements. You can put the drum away for now.

  2. Love the title! 🙂

Great minds and all that – at exaclty the same time I’ve spun off a new blog (mine’s about TV) from my existing one, and completely independently we’ve selected the same blog theme. Even if it does mean a bit more work, it makes complete sense to set up a separate site on a topic which (a) you love and (b) your readers do. All the best with the new venture!

    • Thanks Tim, I hadn’t even noticed that we’d selected the same theme for our spin-off blogs! I’ll have to go back and look at yours again. I’m still trying to figure it all out. I like the magazine type style of that theme, but it’s not quite as simple to use as the one I have here! But I shall stick with it because I do like it.

All the best with your new venture too, you know how much I admire the way you write those reviews etc, so I shall definitely be a regular visitor to it.

  5. Congratulations on your new blog, and loving your little cheeky banner at the bottom of this page! I shall gladly follow your second blog. I am keen to create one for cooking… instead, I shall probably just continue to make and eat yummy things! 🙂

    • Yes, somebody created that bottom banner for me as a Christmas present, hopefully people will see it down there…well you did!

You already run two blogs, what with your Spineless Wonders one too! Maybe Willy and Cyril could do a bit of cooking?

I saw your lovely comment on the YouTube by the way 🙂

  6. Hey V, Happy New Year and congrats on the new blog 🙂 I have been surprised by the popularity of my own baking-related blogs…one I wrote about cooking dinner for my Dad before Christmas resulted in lots of likes and new followers, which was most unexpected! A further post about some macaroons I made did the same…I follow a few cooking/baking related blogs that I really enjoy reading, and I shall also follow yours (and happy to get involved too!) x

    • Hey Sharon! Yes I think cooking blogs are quite popular, I noticed you had done a few on your blog. Thanks for following it and saying you’re happy to get involved, that would be great. If you’d like to present a recipe, or guest post something on there, and of course we’ll include a link to your site (obviously that won’t have a great value to you until I get more followers on my new one!).

Happy New Year to you too x

  7. Count me in–but my question is–what do you do if your fudge sets too much–I had to use a chisel to get mine out of the pan–it was still good–but I had to work hard for it. Love the title –Sugarness–You are so cleaver, I mean clever

  8. I say, we keep the drum out! 😀

What a great idea for a new blog, Vanessa. You have such a whimsical way with words – and such fun with all your posts – that it’s going to be great to get in on one of your efforts at the ground floor. Having your kids be involved is a terrific start, too. Who knows? Maybe they’ll pick up your legacy and write cooking or baking posts on their own. (Actually, I’d love to see that happen!)

Heading over there right now, to sign myself up for some Sugarness goodness!

  9. You’ll actually probably be okay with something like that because it will still do well even if you only post once a month or so. Good luck with it. Sounds like fun.

  13. Good for you, Vanessa! But since I stay away from sugar (except as it is found in fruit), this doesn’t seem like a blog for me. 😦 I can see how it would be popular for most people though! Good luck with it! 🙂

    • Nope, unfortunately it doesn’t sound like a blog for you! Too much sugar isn’t good for anyone of course, and I’m certainly not wanting to encourage people to eat more sugar, but I guess I’m thinking that when we do eat sugar, it’s better if it’s something homemade, where we know exactly what went into it, rather than something processed and store bought! 🙂

  14. That’s incredible that people have time to make fudge! At Christmas. How about just taking it out of the box, throwing it some wrapping paper and pretending you made it. That’s my kind of cooking. Good luck with more sugary things tho!

  15. Yay, Vanessa! I’ve gone across to follow you there, too! Good luck on all your sugar-ventures.

  19. As I can barely fry an egg without a fire extinguisher at the ready, I won’t be following your new blog. But I will, as always, be a loyal follower here and — also as always — watch for your posts on Limebird.

Here’s hoping your holiday was happy!

    BTW: Your footer is adorable!

    • Hey Mike! Nice to see you back, you were pretty quiet over the holidays! We had a good time, hope you did too.

Well indeed, no point in following the other blog if cooking is of no interest to you! Speaking of being a loyal follower, did you see me singing on my New Year’s eve blog post? I know how much you like to be entertained by me 🙂

Also, look out for my next post on here, which I think will be on Tuesday, I’m going to be mentioning you.

And glad you like the footer!

      I think that’s everything…

      • Yep. I was technology-free for two weeks, which was delightful once I got through the withdrawal. It’s really good to be back, though.

You’re gonna mention me? Yay! I will keep my eyes peeled.

        Until Tuesday…

  22. I love the title!! I’ll definitely follow it. I like to bake too. My husband makes fun of me because I’m not a very good cook when it comes to dinner and things like that, but give me some chocolate chips and butter and it’s on!

  23. Yey! I love the sound of your new site. I have a friend who comes round on fridays and we bake together, so if anything comes out semi-successful I shall let you know. Happy New Year x

    • Hey, nice to see you! Happy New Year to you too. I’ve been noticing your absence from the blogging world for a while, I hope you were busy doing lots of fun things over Christmas and New Year. Thanks for following over on the sweet site, and yes, take photos of anything that comes out well and send me the recipe! x

  24. Greetings! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when browsing from my iphone4. I’m
trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this issue.

If you have any recommendations, please share. With
    thanks!
