The Prime Minister’s Wee Wee

Blue dinosaur in snow

This isn’t me, but it could have been if someone had challenged me to dress up as a blue dinosaur and run through the snow (which is no more random that some of the other things you all suggested)

Don’t worry, this isn’t a post about the Prime Minister’s tax affairs. No, yet again I’m prepared to make a fool of myself in front of my blogging audience for the sake of…what AM I doing this for the sake of again? I’m sure I had a good reason. Anyway, yes, it’s time for another one of the challenges I was set by you guys at the end of last year. This one came from Pete Denton. He suggested that I vlog a Victoria Wood style skit about recycling…er…sure, that’s a perfectly normal thing to do and..er, really easy…gulp. I actually wrote the skit in my head very soon after he set it, but it’s taken me this long to get up the courage to record and post it.

I’m not sure if Victoria Wood is very well known outside of the UK – she’s a British comedian who has been on TV since the 70s. I was particularly a huge fan of hers in the 80s, but she carried on doing plenty more after that too. She’s done a mixture of sketch shows, stand-up comedy, sitcoms, theatre, as well as drama, and has covered a range of different characters and styles, so it’s quite hard to define what would be a Victoria Wood style skit. One of the things she does in her stand-up routines is become different characters and just tell a story about something as that character, so it’s that kind of thing I’ve gone for. I don’t actually think the end result is anything like any of her stuff, but oh well, you can at least appreciate my bravery in giving it a go right? Especially you fellow introverts. I know I love to do a bit of acting, but this is somewhat out of my comfort zone.

Well here goes…

  1. Oh my! Loved it. Thanks for the giggles this morning, V! You are brave and you should do more of these.

  2. A brave attempt! I just hope to goodness you have NOT drunk the PM’s wee wee… it doesn’t bear thinking about. I loved Victoria Wood talking about recycling bottles ( in Highgate dontcha know – quite posh) and taking a whole lot of bottles to the re-cycling place and not knowing what to do as there was no bin marked ‘Chardonnay’…

  3. Her kids went to the same primary school as my kids and she did a fund-raiser evening for the school – this must be 10 yrs ago at least – she was hysterically funny about the one skinny wee girl being driven up Highgate Hill in a 4×4 , mother (very thin and over-tanned) following a Ribena slick up the road and then fighting other Alpha-mums to stop nearest the school gates so her darling infant would not have to walk over too much public pavement!! At the time she was married to ‘The Great Suprendo’ whose real name escapes me at the moment (though I do know it) he is an amazing magician. They are now divorced.

  5. That was terrific! Well done. You deserve to drink something much tastier than the Prime Minister’s wee wee for this one!

  6. Oh, Vanessa, this is wonderful! You are indeed brave, but you are also talented, so these vlogs are a natural fit for you. I love them. I wouldn’t be surprised if some day I’m watching a movie on the big screen and there you are. Playing an American role, no doubt. You Brits are so good at pulling off American accents, you’re getting all the roles! (I’m looking forward to seeing Tom Hiddleston playing Hank Williams. No doubt he’ll be great.)

  10. I think you could easily be the next YouTube star Vanessa. Still giggling. Luckily I didn’t spew my latte all over the screen. 🙂

  11. Haha, brilliant. Firstly, well done. I think you captured Victoria’s skit personality really well. Secondly, I NEVER thought you’d pick my challenge so kudos to you.

My wife’s a big Victoria Wood fan and we saw her on tour about 15 years ago. You did her proud 🙂

    • Well thank you Pete. Do you know that skit she did “I’m looking for my friend, Kimberley, have you seen her?” I was trying to emulate that character but it didn’t quite turn out that way! Never mind, I’m glad I did it anyway, just to show that I’m game to have a go!

  12. FABULOUS! You should do vlogs. Very entertaining. Didn’t appear much of an introvert though. I think that’s in your head.

  14. Ha ha … I enjoyed this. 🙂 While watching, you wouldn’t believe what I’m thinking …. This lady proclaims to be an introvert! …. Just another example of blogging bringing out that inner personality. Well done, Vanessa!

    • Thanks Frank. Yes I know, but just remind yourself that many top actors and performers are introverts, so being able to do things like that doesn’t mean that you’re not. It’s really about where we get our energy from, which is from being alone. We don’t tend to like doing lots of social things or being around lots of other people, and as long as we can recharge by having plenty of quiet alone time, then we can step up and perform when we need to! 🙂

  15. Oh, c’mon. Are you kidding me? That was great! Saw your tags. You do this to yourself for US, you’re adoring audience. Same as all performers.
